Why The Disney Renaissance is overrated
Much of the 1990s have come and gone and for Disney fans, people will recall movies like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King. Most people might agree that Disney’s best era was its Renaissance era. Some might say that it’s true but others might think that that is debatable.
The 1990s put Disney back on top again and marked it as the landmark company that it is. However, it is that, as of late, this era of Disney may be overblown by fans as they forget other things that made Disney Disney.
People Forget about other Disney Eras
A lot of fans are enamored by the awe and magic of the 1990s Disney and they have every right to be. The era was enriched with a plethora of magical songs and unforgettable stories that people cherish to this very day.
However, I have noticed that that’s all my generation talks about. They forget about the Golden, Silver and Bronze age of Disney. Those ages had The Sword in the Stone, Bambi, and Peter Pan. Those other movies made the foundation of Disney and without them, the company would not be what it is today.
Fans Pedestalize them too much
This might seem a little too obvious. Millennials and Gen Z remember the 90s a little too fondly and that’s fine but many people talk about that era as if that were the only era that deserved praise.
Like any other era of Disney, it’s not perfect and people should understand that. It’s had its fair share of critique and the historically-questionable Pocahontas proves that. I feel like too many people pedestalize these movies because they don’t remember the previous eras as much and they better know the songs that were released during that time. Nostalgia seems strongest with this era for Millennials and Gen Z, which is just a more biased reason to favor these films.
